Epidemiologic Study of Hepatitis C Virus Transmission in Lorestan Province (2011-14)
Authors
Abstract:
ABSTRACT Background and Objective: This study was conducted to evaluate epidemiology of risk factors for hepatitis C virus (HCV) transmission, and determine the association of its genotypes with viral load and response to treatment in patients referred to the Infectious Disease Clinic of Khorramabad. Methods: The study included patients infected with hepatitis C referred to the Infectious Disease Clinic of Khorramabad during 2011-14. Those who met the inclusion criteria were referred to counseling centers for risky behaviors. After collecting demographic and epidemiologic data on the modes of transmission, blood samples were collected for more accurate testing. The erum of patients with hepatitis C was evaluated in terms of HCV genotype and viral load using PCR. Results: Among 120 patients studied, 102 (85%) were male and 18 (15%) were female. The most prevalent genotypes were 3a (63.8%), 1a (25%), 1a/1b (5.2%) and 2 (1.7%). Intravenous drug abuse was the main route of transmission of hepatitis C in the study. The genotypes 3a and 1a had a clear correlation with intravenous drug abuse and history of blood transfusion (P<0.05). It was also found that the patients with genotype 3a show a better initial response to treatment with interferon. Conclusion: The study shows that intravenous drug abuse is the main route of transmission, which highlights the need for intervention and education in this group of patients to prevent disease transmission. full textRisk of Hepatitis C Virus transmission Following Upper Gastrointestinal Endoscopy
Background: Hepatitis C virus infection (HCV) is a main health problem in our country. It is thought that the transmission of hepatitis C virus (HCV) through the endoscopic procedures is a rare event. The aim of this study was to evaluate the risk of conventional disinfection in the transmission of HCV. Materials and methods: A prospective study, comprising 456 consecutive upper gastrointestin...
full textDiagnostic and Epidemiologic Features of Hepatitis C among Hemodialysis Patients Living in Yazd Province of Iran
Background and Aims: Hepatitis C is a blood-borne virus that causes a liver inflammation. The prevalence of hepatitis C (HCV) in hemodialysis patients is more than the general population. Periodic screening of HCV in dialysis centers is necessary to control this viral disease. The aim of this study is the evaluation of HCV infection among hemodialysis patients living in Yazd province of...

INTRODUCTION Study reports of mother to child transmission of hepatitis C virus (HCV) have shown transmission rates ranging from 3 to 37%, according to maternal viremia and HIV-1 coinfection. The present study evaluated the prevalence of the HCV infection in the general population and the incidence of vertical transmission, from women who delivered in the Obstetric Clinic of the Hospital of Par...
full textDetection of SENV Virus in Healthy, Hepatitis B- and Hepatitis C-Infected Individuals in Yazd Province, Iran
Background: SEN virus (SENV) is the latest virus proposed as a cause of unknown hepatitis cases. Among nine detected genotypes of the virus, genotypes D and H are more frequent in hepatitis cases of unknown origin. The aim of this study was to determine the frequency of SENV-D and SENV-H genotypes in the sera of healthy individuals and hepatitis B and C patients. Methods: Totally, 200 serum sam...
